Psychotherapy works because of the relationship between therapist and client. When the relationship clicks, progress is possible on a wide variety of issues. The relationship itself is the healing mechanism, moreso than any particular technique or approach. Research nowadays backs up this assertion: no particular therapy has great results; particular therapists do.
I am such a therapist and I believe this is primarily because of the level of intention I bring to our work together. I see therapy as a structured encounter for caring; if we work together, I will bid for relatedness and I will encourage you to do the same. I will seek to earn your trust and to provide you the opportunity to be fully heard, seen, and "gotten". Perhaps most importantly, I will invite and help you to find the answers you have inside you.
What Happens in Therapy
The session follows your needs. Talking is one of the primary ways we will spend time together; in addition, according to your interest and willingness I also frequently use sandtray, guided visualization, art, psychodrama, movement, and music in my work with clients. The point is that what we do needs to fit you, not the other way around. Also, to integrate and extend our work together, I frequently invite clients to do practices such as journaling, relational experiments, or art as needed.
In addition to therapy with the simple aim of healing, greater wholeness, and happiness in life, I have experience and demonstrated skill in working with these specific issues:
I am a Licensed Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the State of New Mexico, and my license number is T-0140121. For more information about my education and training, click here.
From letters and client feedback forms by my former clients at the Life Healing Center:
"I don't know why but I knew from the moment we had our first session that I was going to get the help I needed. And I did."
"After a LOT of therapy, I didn't really expect this to be any different. But you have helped me feel hope again."
"He is a real person and knows what its like to be a client and to have problems. He taught me to fight for relationship."
"Jason was kind and empathic, but not afraid to confront me when I was lying to myself. He had a way of saying things no one else could say to me without some kind of reaction."
"Intuitive, intelligent, and insightful."
"He is the first person I have really allowed myself to trust, and he has helped me to believe I can do this in my life too."
"You taught me what it really means to be a man."
"Intuitive, intelligent, and insightful."
"Our family is totally changed. You changed our lives."
